The Invitation: becoming a conduit of new creation life

The Neighboring Life begins with a true understanding that Jesus invites us to live. He wasnʼt inviting people to escape this world–He was inviting us to actively join Him in the redemptive work of reforming, reshaping, and renewing this world in the here and now. As we step into this new life of partnering with God—a life that has been flowing from eternity past and will continue into eternity future– it slowly seeps into every corner and crack in our hearts, healing us and giving us strength and hope.

And this true, deep, and lasting life canʼt be contained or restrained. To truly accept the invitation of Jesus is to become a living conduit of this new creation life, to be completely saturated ourselves as we channel His life toward others.

In Neighboring Life, we donʼt add things to our to-do list and try to generate the motivation or desire to do the right things. Itʼs about learning to live the Jesus way in the middle of the everyday.

Instead, we continue to discover how to live in the awareness of the flow of Godʼs presence in every simple moment, in every personal interaction, in every opportunity to care for a friend.

The Neighboring Life is a community of people who are exploring how to truly live in the way of Jesus right where we are.

We serve our neighbors in practical and simple ways.
We care for the sick, the broken, the poor, and the marginalized.
We celebrate the moments when the beauty of this life gives us a glimpse of Godʼs goodness.
We intentionally create opportunities to connect with others.
We share ideas and experiences with each other, finding both inspiration and guidance together.

We reject the version of Christianity that pursues right beliefs and minimizes right actions.
We refuse to compartmentalize our lives between the sacred and the secular.
We renounce an understanding of faith focused on checklists and obligations.

We want to learn to live and love like Jesus did, to become a certain kind of people who are actively following Him together extending His ancient-and-new way of life to everyone we know in every way we can.

The Application: simple actions that permeate the everyday

While the invitation is expansive–we are invited to join our Creator in flooding the entire world with full and lasting life–our actions begin simple and small. In the simple daily actions of drawing attention to both the brokenness and the beauty in those around us and responding with actions of compassion and service, of gratitude and worship, the trickle of Godʼs healing presence brings light and life. We love our neighbors with simple, practical actions–caring for them when they need support, celebrating with them when they experience success, connecting with them in the daily rhythms of life. Over time, the trickle of simple actions grows into a stream that can enrich the lives and souls of many.

The Practice: learning the Jesus way

One of the beautiful things about the Neighboring Life is that thereʼs no such thing as failure. There is only trying, learning, and exploring how to live the Jesus way. Every conversation, every act of service, and every moment of presence with someone else is an opportunity to learn more about the stream of Godʼs ever-present love and indestructible grace. Learning to live the Jesus way means learning by doing–trying before you feel completely ready, allowing yourself to be carried forward by His Spirit.
